Interesting question! Let’s find out!
Alarm.com’s ADC-T3000 is a smart Z-Wave Plus thermostat that connects to virtually any Z-Wave controller or hub. The device, however, is primarily designed to communicate with security systems. The thermostat offers full temperature control, as well as fan and humidity control functions. If you pair the thermostat with your Z-Wave network, you can control it remotely and use smart scenes to automate its operation.
Recently, one of our customers with an HVAC system that operates across multiple zones wondered if there was a way to have the ADC-T3000 control multiple HVAC zones. Unfortunately, that can’t be done at this time. If you connect an ADC-T3000 to one of those systems, it will only be able to be assigned to one zone. The ADC-T3000 would control only that zone, including its temperature, fan setting, and humidity settings, if necessary. For controlling other HVAC zones, you would need additional ADC-T3000 units.
Here’s one great option that you could consider!
An alternative is to use the Alarm.com ADC-S2000-T-RB in conjunction with the ADC-T3000 to interface with multiple temperature sensors. The temperature sensors require the same Z-Wave network connection as the ADC-T3000, which you can then connect through your security system to the thermostat. A single ADC-T3000 Thermostat can pair with as many as ten (10) of these units. This will allow each ADC-S2000-T-RB to detect the temperature in its specific area, away from the ADC-T3000.
However, it should be noted that these different “temperature zones” do not correspond to separate “HVAC zones”, and the ADC-T3000 can only control one zone at any given time. Devices like the ADC-S2000-T-RB are designed to measure temperatures over a wider area. Based on the readings from the multiple sensors, the ADC-T3000 can then regulate the HVAC zone accordingly to provide more effective heating and cooling. No matter how it is configured, the ADC-T3000 will only control one HVAC zone.
